Every year, innovators, farmers, and stakeholders in the agriculture sector from all over Uganda gather at one of the biggest agricultural events in the country, the Harvest Money Expo.
Organised by Vision Group, this is the kind of event where you walk in with questions and leave with numerous ideas. This year, we were there again, and it was three valuable days.
Three Days, One Big Question
When we set up our stand at Kololo Independence Grounds in Kampala, we didn’t know what to expect. But what we got was groups of curious people, farmers, traders, students, and everyone in between, all stopping to ask the same thing: “Black Soldier Fly farming… how does it actually work?” (Tip: visit the following link to find the answer)
That question made us smile every single time because behind it is something really important: people are willing and ready to learn. They just need someone to explain it in a way that makes sense, and that’s what we did.
For three days, we walked them through the basics and showed them how this simple insect can do two powerful things at once: turn organic waste into rich compost for the farm’s soil health and produce protein-rich feed for your animals.

Waste In, Value Out
That’s really what Black Soldier Fly farming is all about. You take the things you’d normally throw away, food scraps, farm waste, and feed them to BSF larvae. The larvae eat it up, grow fast, and leave behind two things your farm can use: organic fertiliser and feed for your fish, chickens, or pigs.
When it’s set up well, it doesn’t just reduce waste. It can become a profitable business.
Why Events Like This Matter
Farming in Uganda is changing, and the conversations happening at events like this are part of that change. Farmers are asking better questions, and people are seeking solutions that work on the ground.
We’re grateful to Vision Group for building a space where those conversations can happen and thrive.
