In 2022, Ento Organic Farm was contracted by Hatches Limited under the Agricultural Business Initiative Limited (aBi), The Green Transformation Project (Increasing Market Access and Productivity of the Poultry Value Chain through effective and environmentally efficient Inputs in Central and Eastern Uganda) to develop BSF training manuals on production and commercialisation, develop BSF based feed formulations, conduct farmer training in Buikwe district, Uganda.
Ento Organic Farm Uganda Limited completed the assignment with a BSF training manual for trainers, extension officers, and farmers to use. The manual included different modules such as;-
- Organic wastes collection, sorting, and transportation
- Preparation of organic waste into larvae feed
- BSF breeding
- BSF larvae rearing
- Conversion of BSF larvae into livestock feed
- Conversion of ‘frass’ (the mixture of larvae faeces, exuviate and residual organic waste), into organic fertiliser
- Record keeping
- Financial management
Ento Organic Farm tested recommended feed formulation for poultry (Layer and broiler chickens) EOF also trained over 500 participants in Buyike district in the entire BSF value chain.
